Permanent Subacute Rehab Occupational therapist wanted in KIMBERLEY Northern Cape:


Juane Raats Occupational therapy practice is looking for an enthusiastic OT, able to work independently and run an occupational therapy program in a private physical sub acute rehabilitation facility based in Kimberley.


Role of successful candidate:

– The candidate will be permanently based at the sub acute rehabilitation center and see all the inpatients

– Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, attend weekly meetings and hand in weekly progress reports and discharge reports

– Ordering of assisstive devices and writing motivations

– Attending family meetings and doing family training as needed

– Possible ward rounds with staff and scoring patients on Beta scale

– Setting up and maintenance of an Occupational therapy program for inpatients (eg groups, individual therapy

– Reassessment of occupational therapy program and constant improvement thereof

– Setting up / writing of occupational therapy protocols relevant to subacute rehabilitation

– Providing training opportunities for nursing staff, with regards to adaptations, devices, etc.

– Assessing patients in acute facilities (as requested) to help determine if they are rehab candidates, give feedback and referring to social worker


Types of patients seen:

– Neurologically impaired adults (TBI, Stroke)

– General weakness

– Elderly patients with weakness due to prolonged hospital stay

– Orthopedic patients

– Spinal cord injury (less often)



– Independent worker, enthusiastic, team player, hard working.

– Occupational therapy degree

– Registration with MPS (can be arranged with practice)

– At least 2-4 years’ experience in Subacute physical rehabilitation

– At least 1-2 years’ experience in private practice

– Bobath NDT for adults qualified

– Experience with wheelchair seating (basic level) is beneficial
