A full-time post is available for an Occupational Therapist in a dynamic, fast growing private practice. The post will be based across the Bellville and Paarl branches of the practice and therapists will be required to work at either branch depending on the workload.
The practice specialises in vocational assessment and rehabilitation and adult physical rehabilitation of patients with spinal and neurological conditions. Rehabilitation intervention is provided in the acute, subacute and chronic phases.
The practice exists as part of a multi-disciplinary team consisting of physiotherapy, biokinetics, social work, and a variety of medical specialists. The ability to work closely with other medical professionals is therefore essential.
The suitable candidates should be passionate about patient care, service excellence and ethical, evidence-based practice. Candidates should be able to function in a fast-paced, highly demanding environment and should be willing to work hard to provide excellent patient care. Going the extra mile is the norm rather than the exception, and therapists should be willing to work overtime and weekends on a rotation basis.
Physical and emotional fitness and good health is essential as the work demands the capability to perform physical patient handling from time to time, and the complexity of the medical conditions seen requires emotional resilience from the therapist.
Willingness to learn and eagerness to improve own knowledge and skills are essential, but candidates should be able to identify and address learning needs independently, take initiative and assist in practice development.
Excellent report writing skills, administrative management skills and time management skills are required.
A broad knowledge base regarding multiple medical conditions and the management of these is essential and the interview will contain clinical skills assessment components. Candidates should therefore be willing and able to attend an interview in Cape Town.
Pre-requisites: B.OT or B.Sc OT degree
Registration with HPCSA and other relevant statutory bodies
At least two to three years’ experience
Fluent in Afrikaans and English
Self-confidence and clear understanding of the occupational therapy process
in the above-mentioned areas.
Driver’s license and own vehicle
Ability to work independently
Ability to work under pressure and manage high volume caseload
Ability to communicate well with a variety of people
Additional training in vocational assessment and rehabilitation, adult physical rehabilitation and/or pain management will be an advantage.
Closing date: 18/4/17
